Assmannshausen, located at the foot of the Höllenberg (devil’s mountain) forms together with Rüdesheim the southern gate to the “Middle Rhine Valley”, a UNESCO world heritage site. It is an ancient place, already documented at the beginning of the 12th century, at a time when mighty bishops and sovereigns controlled the destiny of this important European area.
During the 19th century, the age of the so called „Rhine Romanticism“, many famous personalities visited Assmannshausen: poets, artists, composers. But also the German Emperor, the Austrian Empress ‚Sissi‘ and the „Iron Chancellor“.
Prince Bismarck was a frequent customer here and enjoyed his wine at the former „Bismarckparlour“, which is nowdays our little “ Loreley Tavern“.
